Information

History:
A Chapel of Ease was built at Buckie around 1835, the 'new' town of Buckie being within the parish of Rathven. The new Parish of Buckie was disjoined from Rathven in 1876. The first building was replaced by a new church with its distinctive crown tower in 1879. The clock was presented by one of the elders, William Donaldson, in 1883. The church became known as the North Church at the union of 1929. It was briefly linked with Rathven between 1975 and 1980.

Keswick in Buckie:
The North Church hosts the popular inter-church Keswick in Buckie annual meetings.

The Town:
Although there was an old harbour at Buckpool, it was the building of Cluny Harbour in the 19th century which signalled the expansion of the town, until it took in the old settlements of Buckpool, Ianstown and Portessie, as well as a closely packed Seatown area known as Yardie, now a conservation area. Alongside fishing and trading from the harbour, there are shipyards and a lifeboat station. All UK RNLI lifeboats are repaired and serviced at Buckie
