History::
Portknockie Church was built in 1861 by a congregation of the United Presbyterian Church. For various reasons, not least the deposition of their first minister in 1866 for “confessed immorality”, the congregation did not flourish and the debt on the building could not be paid. This led to the building being sold to the Free Church in 1869. On the union of the UP and the Free Churches in 1900 it became Portknockie United Free Church. In 1929, the United Free Church rejoined the Church of Scotland, and while the Church of Scotland’s Seafield Church, just outside the village, continued to be served by a minister, the village church, renamed Portknockie North, was reduced in status and was served for some years by missionaries. The two congregations were united on 31 December 1942. The Seafield Church was eventually disposed of, and the present church became the sole place of worship. Portknockie was linked with Findochty in 1970.
