The charge is a union of three former parishes stretching from the outskirts of Elgin northwards to the Moray Firth coast. Duffus is mainly a farming community, Hopeman a fishing village, and Spynie an ancient parish close to Elgin, with many of the worshippers there living in the town. Spynie Palace, in the care of Historic Scotland, is the former residence of the Bishops of Moray.
