Area:
The main settlement in Parish of Enzie is the fishing village of Portgordon, on the shores of the Moray Firth, just a mile or two west of Buckie. The parish also includes a large landward area.
Pronounciation:
Enzie is pronounced `Ingy`. Same as in the name Menzies!
History:
The Parish of Enzie was disjoined from Rathven and Bellie in 1851. The Parish Church was at Broadley, while the Free Church was opened in 1844 and was known as the `Cocket Hat Kirk`. At the union of the Church of Scotland and the United Free Church in 1929, they became Enzie South and Enzie North respectively. The congregations united in 1930 and both churches were used for worship until the North Church closed in 1946. At this time the Portgordon Hall was consecrated for the administration of the sacraments. Built in 1900, it had been used up to then only for evening services. Enzie was linked with Rathven in 1980, but this arrangement was terminated in 1997 when the congregation was linked with Buckie South and West Church. Enzie South Church ceased to be used and was later taken over and renovated as Moray Crematorium, the church in the village now being the sole place of worship.
Vacancy:
The charge is currently vacant.
