Information
Activities:
There are just over 350 members on the congregational roll, of mixed age, with a number of active younger members. There is a small Sunday School with a membership of 5-8 children, and an active and enthusiastic Guild of round 30 meeting on Monday evenings, October to March. A Caring Group of 17 visitors keeps in touch with over 50 housebound members and holds annual events including a Social Evening and a summer outing.
Oversight:
There is a Kirk Session with 14 Elders, and a Congregational Board of 8 elected members who are no Elders
Buildings:
The Church dates from 1901, attractively built in the Norman style and sited in a commanding and convenient position in the town. It replaced the old Drainie Parish Church. Recent additions include a new car park and floodlighting. A hall and session room are attached to the church. The Manse is a traditional stone built detached house which commands superb views across the Moray Firth to Sutherland.
The Town:
Lossiemouth has a population of around 9000 and a long history as a fishing community. Fishing activity is now very limited and much of the harbour area is given over to leisure and a marina. A large and busy RAF station lies just to the west of the town. The nearest large shopping town is Elgin, 6 miles inland. The town has two primary schools and one secondary school. Leisure activities include a golf club, bowling club, riding school, football club and a number of social clubs. There is a Community Centre and a small swimming pool. There is an active twinning arrangements with Hersbruck in Bavaria. In spite of its northerly aspect, the climate is remarkably moderate compared with higher, inland, less sheltered areas
