Information

St. James is one of two Church of Scotland churches in the town of Lossiemouth, on the Moray coast. Lossiemouth grew up as a fishing town and has a large harbour. The Church is situated prominently on Prospect Terrace, overlooking the sea. The parish is 1.5 square miles in area with 3000 population, but drawing members from the whole town, population 7350 approximately. There is a large Royal Air Force base in the town.

History:

The congregation has its origins in a Secession Church which began services in 1840. It occupied its present building, formerly the High Church, in 1960, the building having been extensively rebuilt in 1934 after a fire.

Congregation:

St. James has around 370 members and 40 adherents. Services are held at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. each Sunday. The Guild meets weekly on Mondays at 7.30 p.m. The Good News Club for young people meets weekly in school term time at 11 a.m. on Sundays. A Congregational Mission Design team meets quarterly and consists of four groups; Worship, Mission, Communication and Education & Pastoral Care. The Minister leads a Midweek Fellowship for Bible Study and Prayer, Wednesdays at 7.30 p.m.
